Present Participle
Present participle adalah kata kerja atau verb + ing yang berfungsi sebagai verb ataupun kata kerja.
Present participle digunakan pada tenses:
- Present continuous tense. Contoh: I am typing an essay.
- Past continuous tense. Contoh: I was typing an essay when he came.
- Present perfect continuous tense. Contoh: I have been living in this city for ten years.
- Future continuous tense. Contoh: I will be playing tennis at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Present participle sebagai bagian dari kata kerja.
Contoh:
He is sitting on a bench.
(Dia sedang duduk di kursi panjang.)
Present participle sebagai adjective.
Contoh
The boy sitting on the bench is my nephew.
(Anak laki-laki yang duduk di kursi panjang adalah keponakanku.)
Past Participle
Yang dimaksud past participle adalah verb 3 seperti walked, eaten, written dan sebagainya.
Past Participle digunakan pada tenses:
- Present perfect tense. Contoh: I have done my project.
- Past perfect tense. Contoh: They had left when I came.
- Future perfect tense: They will have left for New York by June.
Past participle sebagai bagian dari kata kerja.
Contoh:
I have watched the movie.
(Aku sudah nonton filmnya.)
Past participle sebagai adjective.
Contoh:
The girl visited by Anna is my sister.
(Perempuan yang dikunjungi oleh Anna adalah saudaraku.)
