Teman-teman, di artikel ini aku mau bahasa sesuatu yang simple tapi juga banyak membuat orang bingung dengan dengan perbedaan other, the other dan another.

Other

Other artinya “yang lainnya”. Kata ini lazimnya diikuti kata benda jamak (plural noun) dan kata benda tidak dapat dihitung (uncountable noun).

Contoh:

Uncountable noun: There is other fruit beside oranges in the fridge.

Plural noun: There are still other students in the swimming pool.

The other

The other bisa diikuti kata benda tunggal (singular noun), jamak (plural noun), kata benda tidak dapat dihitung (uncountable noun) dan menjadi pronoun tanpa diikuti kata benda.

Contoh:

Singular noun: I brought two apples to school; I ate one the other I gave it to my classmate.

Pulral noun: This mango is sweet but the other mangoes are sour.

Uncountable noun: I took the other milk from the box.

Sebagai pronoun: I have two novels. I bring one and I left the other at home.

Others dan the others

Others dan the others bisanya berfungsi sebagai kata ganti (Pronoun) dan tidak diikuti kata benda.

Contoh:

They are from this school but the others are not.

Few apples are bad but others are still good.

Another

Another artinya “satu lagi”. Kata another diikuti kata benda tunggal (singular). Another juga sering ditambah kata one sehingga menjadi anoher one.

Contoh:

I want another juice.

I have drunk a glass of orange juice but I still another one?

May I have another orange juice?
