PRONOUN: Pengetian dan Contoh penggunaannya

Pronoun atau kata ganti adalah kata yang dapat menggantikan suatu kata benda atau frasa kata benda. Kata ganti berfungsi menghindari pengulangan kata benda atau frasa kata benda yang sama yang telah disebut sebelumnya.

Dalam bahasa Inggris, pronoun terbagi dalam beberapa ketagori, yaitu:

Pronoun kata ganti

 1. Personal Pronoun

Personal pronoun adalah kata ganti pada subyek dan obyek yang menunjukkan pada orang atau suatu hal.

I => Me (Saya)

You =>You (kamu)

She =>Her (dia perempuan)

He => Him (dia laki-laki)

It =>It (kata ganti untuk selain manusia)

We =>Us (kami/kita)

They =>Them (mereka)

Contoh kalimatnya:

  • I give this book to Anita. (Saya memberikan buku ini kepada Anita).
  • My mother gives flowers to her. (Ibu saya memberikan bunga pada dia).

2. Reflexive Pronoun

Reflexive pronoun adalah kata ganti yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan tindakan atau kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh diri sendiri. Kata ganti bentuk tunggal mendapat akhiran –self, dan bentuk jamak dengan akhiran –selves.

Myself = Saya sendiri

Yourself/ yourselves = Kamu sendiri/kalian sendiri

Themselves = Mereka sendiri

Ourselves = Kami sendiri

Himself = Dia sendiri (laki-laki)

Herself = Dia sendiri (perempuan)

Itself= Dia sendiri (benda atau binatang)

Contoh kalimatnya:

– Sunny cooks dinner by herself. (Sunny memasak makan malam oleh dirinya sendiri)

– Do it yourself! (Lakukan sendiri!)

– The teens are old enough to take care of themselves. (Remaja sudah cukup umur untuk merawat diri mereka sendiri)

 3. Possessive Pronoun

Possessive pronoun adalah kata ganti yang menunjukan kepemilikan seseorang atau kelompok.

Ada dua bentuk possessive pronoun yaitu dependent (ditempatkan sebelum suatu kata benda) dan independent (ditempatkan setelah suatu kata kerja).

 

I. Dependent possessive pronoun seperti my, your, his, her, its, our, their

  • It is my new car.
  • Our office is in Bekasi.
  • This is my house.

 

II. Independent possessive pronoun seperti mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs

Contohnya:

  • This green bag is hers. (Tas hijau itu adalah miliknya).
  • This red car is mine. (Mobil merah ini milikku)
  • I think this key is yours. (Saya rasa kunci ini milik Anda)
